Title: There's no "I" in TEAM

Sharron here.

The title is there to remind us that we are a team, no matter what.

I rmb my first soccer training. I had mixed feelings when i was walking towards the P.E. porch, Is it gonna be fun? Am i gonna be scruntinised? Is that Coach gonna notice me? Will he eat me up? Are the people nice? Am i going to enjoy this?

True enough, all these questions were all answered in my very first soccer training. It was fun, he noticed, he was patient and he din eat me up. The people were far from unfriendly, they helped, they talked and motivate. A very determined bunch.

That day i left the field, motivated and i only had this in my head.
" Damn! I'm so gonna join this cca!" Why?
"Great coach, great people, what's more to ask?"

Then in one of the subsequent trainings, coach talked to us about soccer.

He mentioned that it takes GUTS for a girl to join soccer. Because soccer is no joke, it's a contact sport, it's physically and mentally more demanding then many other sports.
It pushes you to the limit, it makes you shit ass tired after every training and match because you work with almost every muscle group in your body.

Seriously, not every girl will join soccer after hearing these things.

Then he mentioned that soccer is really one of the few sports in the world that builds on teamwork, the bonding in the team which plays soccer is always very strong. Why? Coz we work together and suffer together during training and during match. And the level of satisfaction you gain when you succeed is beyond description, the feeling will be beyond euphoric.

He ends by saying that he respects each of us girls who joins soccer. That he is thankful and he WILL put in 120% to train us up, to make us improve. The exact words were,

" I can't make you a star, but i can make you a decent soccer player. But we all have to work hard together to succeed"

So soccerettes( including me), can you see and feel how passionate coach is and always will be about soccer? I can, because i walked out of school that day not regretting my decision to join soccer.

But the main thing is, this feeling, it fades, it goes away.

I'm sure we all feel like hell after everyone of those debriefs coach gives. But that feeling, it fades and before you know it, you'll be back to normal, half forgetting what he said the training before.

Have you all realized that he has stopped saying all these? Come on gals, if we keep letting our feelings fade and not giving our all, it's only a matter of time his determination fades. And when that happens, there's nothing we can all pretty much do, or salvage.

Remember, there's no "I" in Team. To succeed, it takes all. So work harder, put in our very damn best, kick ass during training. Bring back coach's determination, make him smile more again and who knows, we'll all be able to improve, to kick ass, to become a decent soccer player.

WE love soccer
